Belgium's residence declaration ('déclaration d'arrivée' / 'aankomstverklaring') is filed at the commune where you'll live — not with a central federal office. The commune police will visit your registered address to confirm you actually live there. Only after that visit does your residence permit process advance.
- 1Book an appointment at your commune's Population/Étrangers desk (or Bevolking/Vreemdelingen in Flanders).
- 2Bring: passport, visa D sticker, admission letter, rental agreement / proof of address, 2 passport photos.
- 3Wait for the police home visit — do NOT leave your registered address before it happens.
- 4Return to the commune with any additional paperwork requested; collect your residence document.
