Austria's Meldezettel deadline is 3 working days — the tightest post-arrival deadline in our coverage (tied with Italy's 8 calendar days for stress). Missing it triggers fines and can jeopardise your residence permit renewal. Handle this before anything else once you land.
- 1Fill the Meldezettel form (available at the Magistrat/Gemeindeamt or downloadable in advance) — must be signed by your landlord/host.
- 2Take it to your Meldebehörde within 3 working days: passport + Type D visa page + landlord signature.
- 3Keep the Meldebestätigung — you need it for opening a bank account and for the residence permit collection.
